Delve into the paths that give life to the culture of the páramo and discover the heart of the Andean communities. The Llakta Horseback Ride is a unique cultural experience that invites you to descend to the Cruz de Mayo Community and continue along ancient chaquiñanes—paths used by the chagras since ancient times—until you reach villages full of history and tradition.

Throughout the tour, a native guide will accompany you, sharing stories about the life of the chagra, local traditions, and legends of magical beings that inhabit the ravines, hills, and forests of this magical region of the Ecuadorian highlands.

General Tour Information

  • Availability: Every day (Monday to Sunday)

  • Start time: 9:30 a.m.

  • Total duration: Approximately 7 hours

  • Duration of the horseback ride: Approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

  • Languages available: Spanish / English

  • Meeting point: Quero Central Park (next to the fountain) Av. 17 de Abril between García Moreno and Mariano Benítez

 
Rates

Adults (12 years and older):

  • 1 tourist: USD 100.00

  • 2 or more tourists: USD 75.00 per person

 

Children (5 to 11 years old):

  • 1 or more tourists: USD 65.00 per child

Detailed itinerary

  • 9:30 a.m. – Meeting in Quero

  • Your guide will welcome you at Quero Central Park and accompany you to Hacienda Hipolongo, where we will prepare the horses and you will receive instructions for the tour.


  • 10:00 a.m. – Start of the horseback ride

  • The adventure begins with a descent to the Cruz de Mayo community, and then to other surrounding communities via ancient rural roads. Along the way, you will be able to observe the daily work of the chagras, and if you happen to be there at the right time, participate in or witness traditional celebrations such as Los Toros de Pueblo.


  • Cultural connection

  • Your guide will share local legends and stories that have been passed down for generations. You will learn about the importance of the community, working in the fields, and the deep bond that unites the chagras with the land.


  • Return to the hacienda and lunch

  • At the end of the tour, you will return to the hacienda where a typical lunch prepared by women from the community, made with local ingredients and traditional recipes, will be waiting for you. Afterwards, you can relax and enjoy our facilities.
